South of Scotland Six A side Championships Report | |
19 September 2014 The South of Scotland Youth Sixes took place at Mossfield on Sunday 7September 2014. Play in both the U14 and U17 leagues got under way at 11am with each competition taking place side by side across two pitches. Eight teams competed in the U14 round-robin section, playing each other in fast and furious 7 minute matches. Oban Camanachd qualified from their group having dropped only one point. Inveraray were second, third Oban Celtic A and fourth Glasgow Mid Argyll. Oban Camanachd came through a hard semi-final against Oban Celtic A, scoring two late goals to finish 3-0 winners. It was much closer in the other semi-final where GMA squeezed past Inveraray 1-0. Oban Camanachd showed their class in the final and although GMA made them battle all the way, the Oban side looked comfortable in victory. Seven sides competed in the U17 group in the same format with several tense fixtures. Inveraray came out on top with Kyles Athletic second, Oban Celtic in third place on goal difference ahead of Oban Camanachd who were fourth. Both semi-finals had to be decided on penalties. The first went the way of Inveraray with Oban Celtic unfortunate not to seal the game in extra time. Kyles Athletic won the penalty shoot-out in the second semi-final after Oban Camanachd missed a decisive penalty. After such epic semi-finals and perhaps with a bit more time to recover it was Inveraray who always looked the most likely to win the final. Having scored the crucial first goal, Kyles were left to chase the game and Inveraray sealed victory late on. |
