Skye Win 2020 Glengarry Indoor Tournament | |
26 January 2020 Skye Camanachd Ladies won the Johnstone trophy at Glengarry’s excellent annual indoor tournament at the Nevis Centre, Fort William on Saturday 25 January 2020. There was a full house for this popular 5-a-side competition as Badenoch defended the trophy they won last year. Skye sent two teams for this noon start even although Lorna MacRae, Christina MacDonald and Emma Gordon are all unavailable. It was a first competitive outing as manager for new Skye boss John Angus MacInnes. Badenoch were reigning champions having beaten Glengarry in last year’s final and they topped their group, unbeaten, before defeating Glengarry A 8-1 in the semi-finals. Skye qualified from the same group, beating Glengarry B 5-1, Ardnamurchan A 2-0, Lochaber 4-0, losing 4-2 against Badenoch and overcoming Aberdour 4-0 before defeating the other group winners Inverness 9-1 in the semi-finals. Skye then beat Badenoch 5-4 after extra-time in the final to take the honours. Badenoch led 3-1 at half-time but the match was tied at 4-4 at the final whistle with Rhona McIntyre twice and Kirsty Deans and Mairi Stewart on target for Badenoch and Jenna Beaton’s double and efforts from Caitlin MacLean and Rhianna Kirk counting for Skye. The final went into an extra-time period and, with seconds to spare; Jenna Beaton completed her hat-trick to give Skye, who previously won the event in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018, a fifth tournament success. Jenna Beaton’s contribution throughout the afternoon earned her the player of the tournament accolade. Skye Camanachd B also competed well. They lost 5-1 against Glengarry A and 3-1 against Inverness but beat Strathglass 4-1, Oban Lorn 1-0 and drew 2-2 with Ardnamurchan B.
