Skye Ladies Go Nap At Balgate - Lovat Ladies 0 Skye Camanachd Ladies 11 | |
03 March 2013 The Skye Camanachd Ladies returned from Balgate with both points following an emphatic 11-0 win over Lovat Ladies in their WCA North Division 2 meeting on Saturday 2 March 2013. This was both teams opening league fixture of the season and new signing Sarah Corrigall made her Skye Camanachd debut in this noon meeting. It took just 5 minutes for Skye to make their mark on the game thanks to a Jenna Beaton strike. Beaton followed up her opener with another goal a minute later and both goals came from good link-up play between the Skye midfield and forward line. Lorna MacRae joined Beaton on the score-sheet with her own quick-fire double on 14 and 15 minutes, Both goals came following some neat play between forwards Beaton and MacRae. A shell-shocked Lovat gradually found their feet and they began to pressure the Skye defence but, with Skye’s captain Rosalind Lamond and Kristen MacBeth leading from the back, Lovat were unable to find enough space to attempt a shot at Ilana Paterson’s goal. Minutes before referee James Gallacher’s half-time whistle, Jenna Beaton scored her third to complete a first half hat-trick which gave Skye a 5-0 interval lead. Skye’s lead could even have been greater had it not been for some fantastic saves from the Lovat keeper. Both sides made changes for the second half with Sarah Corrigall coming on in goal for Skye to allow Ilana Paterson to switch outfield. But again it was Skye who took charge early on. Just as she’s done in the first half, Jenna Beaton scored a quick brace early in the second half to take her tally to five and put Skye 7-0 ahead. Beaton was then substituted for Emma Gordon who quickly found her form and threaded a lovely pass into the path of Lorna MacRae who slotted the ball into the back of the net to score to get her hat-trick and make it 8-0. Credit has to go to the Lovat Ladies for not letting their heads drop and they challenged for every ball as if the game was still scoreless. It was Skye who had the final say through as Lorna MacRae went on to score her second hat-trick during the final 15 minutes of the game, She made it 9-0 on 55 minutes, 10-0 a minute later and 11-0 on 66 minutes. This was an excellent day for the Skye Ladies as they recorded such a convincing win in their first game of the season. There was some fantastic team work from the Islanders with Izzy Law deserving a mention. Although all eleven goals were shared between Lorna MacRae and Jenna Beaton; Sarah Corrigall, who by this time had switched to attack, Emma Gordon (twice) and Caitlin MacLean can all consider themselves unlucky not to join them on the score-sheet.
