Skye Enjoy Comfortable Win – Inverness 0 Skye Camanachd 5 - UPDATED! | |
11 May 2013 Skye Camanachd beat Inverness 5-0 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 clash at the Bught Park on Saturday 11 May 2013. This was the fourth meeting between the sides this season: having already met twice in the league and once in the Balliemore Cup. Skye had come out on top in the previous three meetings but they have found Inverness to be difficult opponents on each occasion. Skye manager Willie MacRae was unable to make the trip to the Capital so assistant manager Ross Cowie took charge of the side. The Skye squad included call ups for Stewart Grant and Paul MacKinnon with both having excelled in the Islanders reserve team this season. Stewart Grant started in midfield with MacKinnon joining Andrew Banks and Jack Latton on the substitutes bench. Kenny MacLeod was still missing for Skye as were Gilleasbuig MacDonald, Darryl Macintosh and Aonghas MacDonald. Inverness were without the services of James Cameron who join Beauly earlier in the week and player / manager Allan MacLeod continued in goal. Danny Morrison put Skye ahead after 8 minutes following a lovely move which involved all four forwards and ended when Danny Morrison ran in behind the Inverness full back before firing the ball past Allan MacLeod in the home goal. Skye had the chance to increase their lead when referee Colin MacDonald awarded them a penalty after Danny Morrison was brought down in the D. Morrison picked himself up to take the spot-hit but Allan MacLeod made as wonderful save just under the crossbar. Allan MacLeod again came to the home side’s rescue when he tipped a 30 yard effort from Jordan Murchison over the bar. Skye’s second goal came 4 minutes into the second half and it was something special as Jordan Murchison ran past his marker before sending a brilliant back-hand shot into the roof of the net. Jordan Murchison had collected a soft yellow card earlier in the game and he was sent off on the hour mark after picking up a second booking for retaliation after being on the receiving end of a bad challenge. Despite being a man down, Skye continued to press forward and Danny Morrison got his second and Skye’s third goal just a couple of minutes later when he crashed a 20 yard shot into the roof of the net. Neil MacVicar got the Islanders’ fourth on 70 minutes when he nipped in at the back post to turn a Paul MacKinnon cross into the back of the net. Skye substitutes Andrew Banks and Jack Latton were given an outing in the closing 10 minutes of the game. Will Cowie sealed a 5-0 victory 3 minutes from time when he collected a long ball from Iain Murray before turning his man and rounding keeper Allan MacLeod to score a fine solo goal. Skye assistant manager Ross Cowie felt his team played well and the win takes the Islanders to within a point of league leaders Kilmallie and Beauly although Skye have played a game more than their rivals.
