Skye Drop Points Against Beauly - Skye Camanachd 0 Beauly 1 | |
08 April 2013 The Skye Camanachd first team dropped two valuable points when they went down 1-0 to Beauly in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 6 April 2013. The Islanders, who ran Kingussie so close in the Co-operative MacTavish Cup the previous weekend, were still without the injured Chris Rose and Kenny MacLeod, Iain Murray, and Shaun Hedley were also missing. Beauly, who were second in the table going into the game, had a couple of injury worries of their own but with no second team game, co-managers Stephen MacLean and Iain Morrison had a range of players to choose from. Full forward Marc MacLauchlan missed out with an eye injury. The only goal of the game came after 6 minutes. The Skye defence cleared the ball following a corner on the Beauly left. However visiting full centre David MacLean had pushed forward and he hit a 25 yard drive which beat an unsighted Skye keeper Michael Nicolson at his near post. Beauly keeper MacKay Murray dealt with efforts from Will Cowie and Jordan Murchison as Skye tried to get back on level terms. Neil MacVicar got on the end of a Danny Morrison flick midway through the half but his effort rose over the bar. MacVicar and Morrison reversed roles moments later but this time Morrison was unable to get a shot on target after being set up by his strike partner. Beauly lost full forward Willie Ferguson, who had never fully recovered from a Steven Morrison challenge earlier in the game. Jack MacDonald came on in his place. Skye went on to enjoy most of the first half possession without really troubling visiting keeper MacKay Murray. Beauly came more into the game in the second half and Barrie MacDonald saw an effort deflected wide by home defender Ally “Spod” MacLeod. Skye goalie Michael Nicolson blocked efforts from wing forwards Ross Forbes and Conor Ross. There were few real chances to speak of in the remainder of the game and the longer the match went on, the likelier is seemed that MacLean’s goal would settle the game. Indeed Skye had a chance to change their fortunes midway through the second half when Beauly lost full centre David MacLean as he was feeling unwell. David Groat took over in the middle of the park but the pattern of the game remained the same. Skye manager Willie MacRae introduced Aonghas MacDonald in attack in place of Ally MacDonald with Jordan Murchison dropping back to wing centre. David MacLean returned to the action in attack for Beauly but with an inexperienced bench, Skye made no further changes. When Danny Morrison played a through ball into the Beauly danger area, MacKay Murray came off his line to clear ahead of Jordan Murchison. This was a disappointing performance from Skye, especially after the highs they reached against Kingussie the previous weekend. The Islanders best players were at the back and the whole squad know that they will need to gather greater focus against Inverness in the Balliemore Cup this weekend. As for Beauly, their buckshee back Conor Cormack was outstanding and he controlled large spells of the game. Former Caberfeidh player Liam Mutch was quietly effective at wing back. The Braeview Park side, who are second in the table, now have a crucial home meeting with league leaders Kilmallie at the weekend.
