24 March 2013 Skye Camanachd drew 0-0 with Glenurquhart in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Blairbeg on Saturday 23 March 2013. Skye second team manager Murdo Morrison stepped down last weekend as he is working south of the border for the foreseeable future so John “Spod” MacLeod took charge of the side. Alan Palmer, John MacKenzie and Neil John Campbell were unavailable for this 2.30pm throw up and Ally “Cloudy” MacLeod returned to the squad. Skye made a bright start and a 25 yard shot from Paul Mackinnon whistled over the bar after just 2 minutes. A low shot from John Angus MacInnes was saved by the Glens keeper who turned the ball round the post after 8 minutes. The Glen came close to breaking the deadlock after 14 minutes when Jamie Gannon had to look lively to turn ball away for a corner after scramble in the Skye goal area. Another long range shot from Paul Mackinnon flew past the post on 26 minutes. The Islanders suffered a blow on 33 minutes when full centre Stewart Grant, who has made a superb start to the season, was forced off with an ankle injury and he was replaced by Ally ”Burgers” MacLeod with Kenny Campbell going to full centre. A 38 minute 20 yard shot from John Angus MacInnes went past the Glen post. Skye keeper Jamie Gannon made a save with his chest 5 minutes before the break. Skye acting-manager John “Spod” MacLeod was forced to make his second change of the afternoon a couple of minutes later when Magnus Burd had to go off with an ankle injury and he was replaced by Ally “Cloudy” Macleod who went to buckshee back. Skye had a final first half chance to open the scoring on 43 minutes but an 18 yard shot from Kenny Campbell went wide of target. The Glen created the first chance of the second period on 47 minutes when Jamie Gannon saved an 18 yard shot with his hand. Skye replaced Angie MacDonald with David MacInnes on the hour mark with John Angus MacInnes taking up full forward position. Jamie Gannon saved again a couple of minutes later, this time with his feet. Skye were the put under quite a bit of pressure by Glenurquhart and Jamie Gannon made another save on 68 minutes when he turned the ball round the post. Skye came back into things later in the game and with 10 minutes remaining, John ”Spod” MacLeod used the rolling substitutes rule to shuffle his pack with Stewart Grant able to come back on at full centre and Kenny Campbell going to full forward. The visitors pressed the Glen defence but the end to end nature of the game was emphasised when Jamie Gannon saved again just 5 minutes from time. The ball fell to Skye’s Iain MacLennan a couple of minutes later but he was unable to connect cleanly with a shot from 15 yards out. Skye boss John “Spod” MacLeod was happy with a good all round performance. Jamie Gannon produced some outstanding goalkeeping throughout the game and there were great performances from Jack Latton and DJ Gilpin in defence, supported by the experienced Davie Grant at full back. Chris MacLennan and Kenny Campbell were industrious in the centre line whilst Paul MacKinnon and John Angus MacInnes were a constant threat to the Glenurquhart defence. Skye Camanachd and Glenurquhart now join Lovat and Beauly at the top of the table on five points from their opening four games of the season.
