Skye Camanachd Youth Coach Leads Mallaig Marine Harvest Shinty Tournament | |
08 January 2014 Skye Camanachd Youth Coach and Camanachd Association grade one referee John Angus Gillies led a Marine Harvest Shinty Tournament at Mallaig High School on Monday 16 December 2014. A total 26 primary school age shinty players from Mallaig, Morar and Arasaig primary schools competed in the tournament and the teams were made up from the Islands around Mallaig - Muck Camanachd, Eigg Camanachd, Rhum Camanachd, and Canna Camanachd. Parents and friends of the young shinty players were invited to attend to see how the children have developed their shinty skills since they started playing around two months ago. Marine Harvest sponsored the event Active School Coordinators Emma Watkins and Pamela MacDonald helped run the tournament. Rhum Camanachd were eventual winners following the round-robin competition, beating Eigg Camanachd in a very entertaining final. Rhum Camanachd captain Orla Morrison was presented the trophy by John Angus Gillies from Marine Harvest and coach Christopher Sim. All players received a medal for participating on the day. The shinty training will restart on Monday 13 January 2014 when it is hoped to have sessions for Primary 1 to Primary 3 (5pm till 6pm) and Primary 4 to Primary 7 (6pm till 7pm). It is also hoped that a similar tournament can be organised for teams from Ardgour / Acharacle and Strontian in the near future. Chuim a Iomainn Beo! |
