Skye Camanachd U17 6 Beauly U17 1 | |
28 August 2019 Skye Camanachd U17 beat Beauly U17 6-1 in their Mowi London Shield semi-final first leg at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 27 August 2019. It was a wet evening and this this 6.30pm throw up was the first of two meetings between the sides which would decide who would go through to the London Shield final against Newtonmore or Oban Camanachd. Skye went ahead on 5 minutes when Ross Gordon found Angus Gilpin on the left and he weaved past his marker before slotting the ball home on his back-hand from 15 yards out. Beauly played well over the next 20 minutes with Euan MacCormick doing well against Skye danger-man Ross Gordon. Skye doubled their lead on 25 minutes and it was Taylor Matheson who found himself in space on the left and he drilled a shot home from 20 yards. On 38 minutes, a good move saw Skye play the ball from Archie MacDonald to Ross Gordon and he found Taylor Matheson with a deft reverse touch. Matheson struck the ball on the move from the right and his 18 yard effort beat Beauly goalie Lennox Stewart by his left post to make it 3-0 at half-time. Skye scored a scrappy fourth goal on 55 minutes. Angus Gilpin spotted Ross MacKinnon’s run into the D and MacKinnon scuffed his shot but, with the keeper trying to clear the ball for a corner, it ended up in the net. Taylor Matheson deservedly completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes when he got clear of his marker and fired a shot through the keeper’s legs. And it was Taylor Matheson again on 74 minutes when he took down a great, long ball forward from Archie MacDonald before shooting past the keeper from 18 yards range to make it 6-0. Beauly notched a consolation goal a minute later when Duncan Anderson won possession on the right. Anderson was fouled by Cameron MacKay but referee John Angus Gillies played advantage and Anderson sent the ball screaming past Skye substitute keeper Calum Nicolson with his 25 effort going into the top right corner of the net. Skye had some great performances with Archie MacDonald clearly benefiting from his run of matches with the second team. William Sutherland put in a solid performance at wing back whilst Ross MacKinnon and Ross Gordon used their experience throughout the match. Taylor Matheson rounded off a man of the match performance with a four-goal haul. The sides meet in the Mowi London Shield semi-final second leg at Braeview Park on Tuesday 3 September 2019. Aggregate scores do not count so a Skye win or a draw will see the Islanders progress to the final but any Beauly victory will trigger a penalty shoot-out to decide the outcome.
