Skye Camanachd U17 5 Kinlochshiel U17 4 | |
18 May 2021 Skye Camanachd U17 opened their Mowi U17 London Shield League D campaign with a 5-4 victory over Kinlochshiel U17 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 18 May 2021. This was the first match of the season for the Skye youngsters who compete in a three-team league which also includes Caberfeidh U17 and this 6.30pm throw up was played in accordance with the current restrictions which meant supporters were not permitted to attend. This contest was a real thriller which could have gone either way. Skye trailed 2-0 with Archie MacRae scoring both. The opener came around 30 minutes in with the second forced home from a tight angle. However Taylor Matheson scored twice in two minutes before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot – with the ‘Shiel keeper penalised for a kick - just before the break to give the home side a 3-2 interval lead. Matheson put Skye 4-2 in front immediately after the restart but ‘Shiel showed their battling qualities as they pulled the game back to 4-4 though a hat-trick goal from Archie MacRae and Zander MacRae’s strike 10 minutes from time. Kinlochshiel had a chance to go in front before Skye grabbed a winner in the final minute following a good move and whilst Taylor Matheson was credited with the goal, substitute Cameron Long may well have a claim on it. William James Sutherland and Seonaidh-Alex MacLeod were excellent for Skye as was the prolific Taylor Matheson.
