19 April 2016 Skye Camanachd U17 came from 2-0 down to beat Kinlochshiel U17 4-2 in their opening London Shield match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 19 April. 2016. Skye Camanachd U17 Youth Coach Davie Pringle was without the injured Ruaraidh MacLeod and Martin Pringle so there were places for James Morrison and Daniel MacDonald who joined Mark MacQueen on the substitutes’ bench for this 6pm throw up. There were early chances for both teams but it was ‘Shiel who led 2-0 through goals from Duncan Matheson and Corran Campbell. However James Pringle pulled a goal back from the penalty spot just before half time when a visiting defender was penalised for a “kick” inside the D. Pringle sent the ball low into the net to make it 2-1. James Pringle drew Skye level early in the second half. The Skye forwards had chances to shoot following a corner on the left but Pringle took charge and tucked the ball into the corner of the net. Skye were now in full flow with John Gillies dominating the middle of the park. James Pringle went on to complete his hat-trick when he rocketed the ball over keeper Morgan Fraser’s shoulder from 12 yards out to put Skye in front for the first time in the match. Skye’s Connor Gilpin was launching shys from midfield into the ‘Shiel goal area, causing all sorts of problems for the visiting defence. Skye full back Jamie Gillies took a knock to the knee and Youth Coach Davie Pringle had to shuffle his pack with Mark MacQueen coming on in attack. And it was speedy Skye substitute Mark MacQueen who scored to make it 4-2. Skye’s Calum Robertson limped off to be replaced by Dan MacDonald as the match moved into the closing stages. Skye had a late goal disallowed and the victory gets their London Shield campaign off to a winning start.
