19 April 2022 Skye Camanachd U17 lost 7-1 against Kinlochshiel U17 in their opening Mowi National London Shield – Section D encounter at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 19 April 2022. Skye suffered a blow on the day of the game when full back Iain MacInnes was ruled out. Charlie Latton, Seonaidh-Alex Macleod and Lewis MacDonald were also missing. ‘Shiel travelled with a strong side with Archie MacRae, Arron Jack, Rory Slaughter and Seumas Martin all getting some game time for their first team this season. The recent rain had left the pitch heavy for this 6.30pm throw up. Skye opened towards the Braes end of the pitch and after a competitive opening 40 minutes, ‘Shiel led 2-0 at the interval with Seumas Martin scoring with a good strike from the right of the D and Archie MacRae with a shot from the left. Skye keeper Archie Buchan made a great save from Seumas Martin early in the second half, turning away the shoulder-high shot from right of centre with his club. Just moments later a clearance from the right of the D from the Skye keeper came to Seumas Matheson in a central position and he drifted the ball from 29 yards range into the empty net to make it 3-0. ‘Shiel were enjoying a period of pressure and Archie Buchan saved with his feet to keep out Seumas Martin’s shot from distance Liam Matheson made it 4-0 from close range. Archie MacRae then gathered a ball from the left before running in to score and before cutting in from the right to complete his hat-trick and ‘Shiel led 6-0. Jamie Ross pulled a goal back from just left of centre with a lovely 18 yard strike across the keeper but Archie MacRae rounded off the scoring with his fourth goal of the game, sending the ball into the roof of the Skye net Near the end, Archie Buchan saved well from Seumas Martin’s point-blank strike at the expense of a corner.
