31 July 2021 This week’s Skye Camanachd results are in! The Skye Camanachd first team were edged out 2-0 after extra-time in their Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup second round tie against Lovat at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 31 July 2021. Lovat had the better of the first half but Skye were on top after the restart. Both goalkeepers were key with Skye’s Ryan Morrison keeping out a Greg Matheson piledriver with his face (yes, his face) whilst Lovat goalie Stuart MacDonald made an outstanding double stop to deny both Jordan Murchison and then William MacKinnon. Skye claimed a goal when a Sam MacPhee free-hit came off a Lovat stick before being allowed to enter the Lovat net but the referee waved away their claims. The goals that made the difference were both good strikes by Lorne MacKay. The first came following a Lovat hit-in on the left whilst the second was a smart drive from the right. Skye will take confidence from going toe-to-toe with one of the Premiership’s established sides but it’s Lovat who go through to play 2019 Camanachd Cup finalists Oban Camanachd in the quarter-finals. The Skye Camanachd second team lost 3-0 to the Kinlochshiel second team in their HIS Sutherland Cup second round tie at Rèaraig on Saturday 31 July 2021. Skye travelled with just thirteen players so a couple of injuries left them up against it. The goals all came in the second half with Archie MacRae scoring twice, either side of Lewis MacVicar’s effort. ’Shiel now travel to holders Lochside Rovers in the next round. Skye Camanachd A, Skye Camanachd B and the Skye Camanachd Development team did not have Women’s Camanachd Association fixtures this weekend. Skye Camanachd U17 and Skye Camanachd U14 did not have fixtures this week. |
