14 August 2021 This week’s Skye Camanachd results are in! It took the Skye Camanachd first team almost an hour to break down a competitive Aberdour side before they ran out 5-0 winners in their Alvance British Aluminium Balliemore Cup quarter-final tie at Pairc nan Laoch on Saturday 14 August 2021. This was the first time these sides had met in a senior match in Portree and Aberdour, travelling with just one substitute, showed they were no push-overs with a committed performance. Skye, playing towards the Braes end of the pitch in the second half, made the breakthrough on 59 minutes when they burst forward following an Aberdour set-piece around the Skye goal area and youngster Taylor Matheson marked his senior team debut with a goal, turning home a rebound off impressive keeper Craig Callaghan. William MacKinnon made no mistake from close-in a couple of minutes later when Aberdour failed to clear a Jamie Gillies corner form the right. Jamie Gillies then took centre stage as his turn and shot saw the ball fly high past the keeper on his left side on 71 minutes to make it 3-0. Jamie Gillies got his second and Skye’s fourth on 82 minutes, smashing the ball home from just right of centre after his initial effort was blocked. And with 3 minutes remaining, Jamie Gillies completed his hat-trick with the goal of the match. There seemed little danger when Gillies gathered the ball wide on the right but his bullet-shot rose high into the net past a helpless keeper to send Skye through to next week’s semi-final draw. The Skye Camanachd second team were to play Lochcarron in a Mowi North League match at Battery Park on Saturday 14 August 2021. However this match has now been rescheduled for Tuesday 17 August 2021 with a 7pm throw up. With no Women’s Camanachd Association fixtures this weekend, Skye Camanachd and Kinlochshiel are organising a friendly match to take place at Rèaraig on Sunday 8 August 2021. Throw up is to be confirmed. Skye Camanachd U17 and Skye Camanachd U14 do not have fixtures this week. |
