Skye Camanachd Saturday Shinty Shorts | |
31 May 2014 It was a good week for most of the Skye Camanachd teams who were in shinty action this week. The Skye Camanachd first team are the only side outwith shinty’s national divisions to reach the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup quarter final stage after they beat Bute 3-0 in their all-Island clash at the Meadows on Saturday 31 May 2014. Bute pulled out all the stops to get this tie played and they had the local fire brigade pumping water off their pitch the day before the game after a blocked drain caused some flooding. Skye travelled south to Glasgow on the Friday evening and they went into the match without Jordan Murchison and Neil MacVicar who were both injured and Kenny MacLeod who was unavailable. However keeper Jamie Gannon returned between the sticks. Shockie MacLennan put Skye ahead after just 7 minutes and Kenny Campbell made it 2-0 with 25 minutes on the clock. Shockie MacLennan got his second and Skye’s third on 73 minutes to seal a place in the last eight. Bute’s misery was complete when they saw a late penalty saved by Jamie Gannon and they also had a player sent off by referee Davie Mitchell. Skye can now look forward to Monday morning’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup quarter final draw. The Skye Camanachd second team beat the Inverness reserves 4-0 to reach the quarter finals of the Strathdearn Cup at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 31 May 2014. Inverness put up a great fight and with only 15 minutes remaining, the sides were only separated by a 10 minute John Gillies goal. Indeed Skye U14 player Gillies looked the most likely to add to the home side’s tally and he did just that when he latched onto an Angie MacDonald ball on 75 minutes. Angie MacDonald beat keeper Colin Fraser in a race for the ball to make it 3-0 on 79 minutes and Ally “Cleodi” Macleod made it 4-0 on 90 minutes. Skye now travel to Kilmallie or Beauly in the quarter finals. The Skye Camanachd Ladies were not in action. Skye Camanachd U17 lost 2-1 in their London Shield match with Beauly U17 at Braeview Park on Monday 26 May 2014. Will Cowie put Skye ahead after 2 minutes but goals from Josh Grant and Andrew Morrison gave the Beauly youths both points. Skye Camanachd B U14 came from a goal down to beat Kinlochshiel U14 2-1 in their Local League match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Friday 30 May 2014. Corran Campbell had given ‘Shiel the lead but Ross Nicolson levelled after 49 minutes. The match looked destined for a draw until Skye’s Finlay Davidson popped up in the final minute to score what proved to be the winner. Earlier in the week, there was a Local League meeting between Skye Camanachd A U14 and Skye Camanachd A U14 B sides in Portree on Wednesday 28 May 2014. The sides were mixed up a bit to give the game some balance but the A team ran out expected winners. Arthur Brook Young gave Skye a second minute lead. Marcus Ross notched a second on 20 minutes whilst Ruairidh MacLeod made it 3-0 just 10 minutes into the second half. A Ross Nicolson double on 55 and 60 minutes rounded off a 5-0 win. |
