28 May 2016 Five Skye Camanachd teams were in action this week. The Skye Camanachd first team drew 1-1 with Glasgow Mid Argyll in their Camanachd Cup second round tie at Yoker on Saturday 28 May 2016. Danny Morrison gave Skye the lead on 9 minutes when he collected a Shockie MacLennan pass before sending the ball into the corner of the net. However John McNulty drew the sides level on 23 minutes. This was a tough encounter and there was no further scoring so the teams will have to do it all over again in a replay next month at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. The Skye Camanachd second team lost 6-2 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting with the Newtonmore second team at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 28 May 2016. Newtonmore went in front on 38 minutes when John MacKenzie collected a Darrin Fowler ball from the left and he turned and shot into the net. Connor Jones, back in the ‘More side after injury, made it 2-0 on 41 minutes with his strike deflecting into the net off a Skye defender. Duncan Gorman cut in from the ‘More left to make it 3-0 on 54 minutes. John Angus MacInnes rifled in a shot from the Skye right to make it 3-1 on 63 minutes. However a low drive from Martin Hall made it 4-1 on 74 minutes. The pick of the afternoon’s goals came on 77 minutes. Kenny Ross came deep to win possession and his long ball forward started a fine passing move which was finished off by Duncan Gorman to make it 5-1. A really good individual effort from Skye youngster Ruaraidh MacLeod made it 5-2 on 82 minutes. But Newtonmore had the final say as a solo Duncan Gorman goal 4 minutes from time completed his hat-trick to seal a 6-2 win. The Skye Camanachd Ladies had a terrific 3-1 win over Lochaber Ladies in a tight Marine Harvest National Division 1 encounter at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 28 May 2016. Skye took an early lead in this noon throw up with Rhianna Kirk scoring after 4 minutes. However Rebecca Stafford equalised on 8 minutes. A low Jenna Beaton strike from the right of the D put Skye back in front and Lorna MacRae sealed the win with a long range drive to make it 3-1. The Skye Camanachd Ladies Development team did not have a fixture. Skye Camanachd U17 are through to the MacTavish Juvenile Cup semi-finals after they beat Kilmallie U17 5-0 in their second round tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 24 May 2016. A turn and shot from Ruaraidh MacLeod put Skye ahead after 13 minutes. And it was MacLeod again who made it 2-0 on 28 minutes with a superb individual goal. James Pringle added a third on the half-hour mark and Skye took a 4-0 lead into the break thanks to a Ross Gordon goal. Skye’s fifth goal came against the run of play with Ruaraidh MacLeod completing his hat-trick to make it 5-0.
