27 June 2015 There was plenty Skye Camanachd shinty action this week. The Marine Harvest National Division match between Skye Camanachd and Beauly at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 27 June 2015 was postponed. The noon throw up coincided with the funeral of Colin Murchison which was attended by a number of Skye Camanachd players and officials. The Skye Camanachd second team beat Aberdeen University 2-1 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 27 June 2015. Skye went in front on 35 minutes when forward James Pringle made a great run across goal and his cut-back from the left picked out Angie MacDonald in space and he scored to make it 1-0. Angie MacDonald got his and Skye’s second on 41 minutes when he knocked the ball past his marker before netting to make it 2-0. Aberdeen pressed in the closing stages of the first half and they got their reward when Stuart Cameron slammed a rebound off Skye goalie Jamie Gannon into the net following a corner on the left. There were no goals in the second half so Skye edged this close encounter. The Skye Camanachd Ladies did not have a fixture. However the newly formed Skye Camanachd Ladies second team hosted the latest round of the Marine Harvest Development Tournament at the King George V Playing Field, Portree. This was a sixes completion and the Skye team were joined by Inverness Ladies and Fort William Ladies. The teams played eachother twice in a round-robin format and Skye beat Inverness twice and they beat first Fort William 1-0 but lost 1-0 to the Fort in their second encounter. This was a young Skye side and they are already looking forward to the next set of fixtures. Skye Camanachd U17 did not have a fixture. Skye Camanachd B U14 rounded off their Local League programme with a 2-1 win over Kinlochshiel U14 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Friday 26 June 2015. The visitors took the lead when Duncan MacRae pounced on a mistake to put his side 1-0 ahead with 5 minutes played. Skye fought their way back into the game and a low drive from Dan MacDonald on 7 minutes squared the contest at 1-1. Skye were awarded a penalty on 18 minutes when the ‘Shiel keeper Calum Martin saved a shot with his head and Dan MacDonald struck the ball home to make it 2-1. Skye had keeper Murphy Henderson to thank for two good second half saves and they went on to take the points. |
