24 May 2015 The Skye Camanachd first and second teams both suffered narrow cup defeats this weekend. The Skye Camanachd first team lost two late goals to lose 2-0 to Glenurquhart in their RBS MacTavish Cup Final semi-final tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 23 May 2015. Skye went into the tie without injured pair Shockie MacLennan and Iain Nicolson. The Glen gave Ewan Brady a pre-match fitness test which he failed. However Ally MacKintosh returned from injury to take up a place on the bench. Both sides created chances in the first half with Iain MacLeod in the Skye goal twice saving well whilst Stuart MacKintosh did like-wise for the Glen. Danny Morrison came within a whisker of giving Skye an interval lead but he steered a ball from the right just the wrong side of the post. Ally MacKintosh came on in midfield for an injured Arran MacDonald at half time and as the second half went on, it became clear that the opening goal would be crucial. The break-through came with just 7 minutes remaining as Neale Reid got just ahead of his marker to turn a ball from the right into the net to make it 1-0. Skye tried to force extra-time but the Glen sealed the win with just a minute remaining. Fraser Heath saw his initial shot blocked but he slammed the rebound into the net to make it 2-0. Glenurquhart have now reached their third consecutive RBS MacTavish Cup Final and after two defeats to Lovat, they will now face Newtonmore at the Bught Park on Saturday 13 June 2015. The Skye Camanachd second team are out of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup after they lost 2-1 to the Inveraray second team at the Winterton on Saturday 23 May 2015. Goals from Lewis Montgomery on 41 minutes and Chris Crawford 3 minutes after the restart saw Inveraray move into a 2-0 lead. Skye’s Angie MacDonald reduced the deficit 15 minutes from time and Skye missed a late penalty and the chance to take the tie into extra-time. The Inveraray reserves will now meet the Newtonmore reserves in the semi-finals. The Skye Camanachd Ladies were to host Aberdour Ladies in their Marine Harvest National Division 1 match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 23 May 2015. However the Fife side were unable to raise a team so Skye have been awarded the points. Instead, the Skye Ladies played a home friendly match with St Andrews University Ladies and the Islanders ran out convincing winners in terrible conditions. Skye Camanachd U17 were to play Lovat U17 in the MacTavish Juvenile Cup at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 19 May 2015. However Lovat have pulled out of the competition so Skye receive a bye to the semi-final stage. Skye Camanachd A U14 did not have a fixture as they have been given a bye in the first round of the MacMaster Cup. |
