20 March 2016 Skye Camanachd have had another busy weekend. The Skye Camanachd first team shared the points with Oban Camanachd following a 2-2 draw in their Marine Harvest Premiership encounter at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 19 March 2016. Oban Camanachd shocked the large home support when they went ahead after just 35 seconds as a Willie Neilson shot was deflected low past Skye keeper Jamie Gannon to make it 1-0. Skye came close to levelling after the break when young forward John Gillies was played through on goal but Oban Camanachd keeper Gavin Stobbart came off his line to block the initial effort before the visiting defence pushed the ball out for a corner. Allan MacKinnon played the resultant corner in from the Skye right. Iain Nicolson took the ball down and shot goalwards but Stobbart saved again, only for Jordan Murchison to slam the rebound into the net to make it 1-1 with 29 minutes played. Skye went in front on 73 minutes when Jordan Murchison went on a mazy run before scoring a good individual goal. This was tough on Oban who had more than their share of the play and boss Iain Hay threw full centre Daniel Cameron into attack in a bid to get back on level terms. Cameron went close to equalising when he rolled an effort just past Jamie Gannon’s left post. However he went one better a minute from time when he collected the ball following a Willie Neilson corner on the left and Cameron turned and sent an unstoppable shoulder-high shot into the net to make it 2-2. The Skye Camanachd second team did not have a fixture on Saturday 19 March 2016 as they were the odd team out in the nine-team division. The Skye Camanachd Ladies recorded their first-ever win over Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies in their Marine Harvest National Division 1 match at Yoker on Sunday 20 March 2016. In what was tremendous team performance, a Caitlin MacLean goal gave Skye a 1-0 win over the current Marine Harvest National Division 1 champions and Valerie Fraser Cup holders. The Skye Camanachd Ladies Development team were in action on Sunday 20 March 2016. They played in the second round of development fixtures at Spean Bridge, winning two matches and drawing three times. The Skye Camanachd U17 competitive fixtures will start after the Easter break. The Skye Camanachd U14 competitive fixtures will start after the Easter break. |
