04 October 2014 Three Skye Camanachd teams were in action this week – all away from home. The Beauly second team became the first side to take a league point off champions Skye when the sides drew 0-0 at Braeview Park on Saturday 4 October 2014. Beauly included eight of their promising U17 players in their squad and called on the experience of first team manager Roger Cormack at full back with Jack MacDonald and David MacLean also starting. Second team player / manager Steven MacLean missed out through injury. Skye went into the match without keeper Jamie Gannon so reserve stopper Iain MacLeod was given a debut in goal. Full back Steven Morrison was at the Scotland Shinty / Hurling international training at Spean Bridge whilst Will Cowie was with the Skye Camanachd U17 squad for the London Shield semi-final against Kingussie U17. Shockie MacLennan was working, Kenny MacLeod was injured and Iain Murray was a late call-off. Aonghas MacDonald’s absence left Skye seven players down from their regular squad. Beauly had the best chances in the first half and Skye had goalie Iain MacLeod to thank for some fine saves. Skye came more into it after the break but their forwards found it hard going on a heavy pitch and when they did conjure up a chance, home keeper Kyle MacDonald kept out their attempts. Beauly came closest to breaking the deadlock when a David MacLean rocket shot looked set to go into the net just under the bar but Iain MacLeod stretched to brilliantly turn the ball away with his caman and it ended goalless. The Skye Camanachd second team have completed their season. The Skye Camanachd Ladies were scheduled to play Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. However GMA were unable to raise a team to travel north so Skye were awarded the points and they finish second in the table after their first season in the top flight. Skye Camanachd U17 went down 3-0 in their London Shield semi-final with Kingussie U17 at Craigard on Saturday 4 October 2014. Kingussie’s James Falconer made the difference with a hat-trick in this 3pm throw up. Skye were prompted by Will Cowie in midfield but the Kingussie defence kept the Islanders’ forwards at bay. Kingussie U17 will now meet Newtonmore U17 in the final. Skye Camanachd U14 were 11-0 winners against Caberfeidh U14 at Castle Leod in their penultimate Marine Harvest North Division 1 game. Skye attacked from the start in this 6pm throw up. Ruaraidh MacLeod was once again Skye’s top scorer with six goals. Marcus Ross also bagged a goal with Anna MacDonald and John Gillies notching doubles. Skye will be presented with the Marine Harvest North Division 1 trophy following their final league fixture which is against Caberfeidh U14 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. |
