04 May 2014 Four Skye Camanachd teams were in action this week. The Skye Camanachd first team is through to the last sixteen of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup after they beat Marine Harvest National Division side Glenorchy 6-2 in their first round tie at Mart Park, Dalmally. Skye got off to a great start when Will Cowie put them ahead in the opening minute. Grant MacPherson made it 1-1 after 7 minutes but Shockie MacLennan on 20 minutes and Kenny Campbell on 40 minutes put the Islanders 3-1 in front. However Glenorchy went straight back up the park and Findlay Ross reduced the deficit just a couple of minutes later. Allan MacKinnon made it 4-2 on the hour mark and Shockie MacLennan got his second to make it 5-2 before having to drop back into defence for the final 20 minutes of the game to replace Chris Rose who suffered a head cut. A late Kenny MacLeod goal sealed the impressive 6-2 win. The draw for the next round will be made on Tuesday. The Skye Camanachd second team went down 4-2 to Boleskine in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Farr. Angie MacDonald gave Skye an early lead but goals from Craig Hazle and Lewis Smith swung the game Boleskine’s way. Iain MacLellan made it 2-2 at half time but Ewen Fraser just after the restart and Craig Hazle’s second goal gave Boleskine the points. The Skye Camanachd Ladies were not in action. The Skye Camanachd U17 side opened their London Shield campaign with a 1-0 win against Lochcarron U17 at Battery Park, on Thursday 1 May 2014. The only goal of the match came after just 3 minutes when the Lochcarron keeper turned a James Pringle corner into his own net. Skye’s Stephen Murchison hit the bar in the second half in what was a good win. Skye Camanachd B U14 beat Kinlochshiel U14 4-2 in their Local League match at Kirkton on Friday 2 May 2014. Martin Pringle scored twice for the Islanders, with Connor Gilpin and Mark MacQueen getting the others. |
