Skye Camanachd Remembers | |
13 November 2016 Skye Camanachd took part in the Remembrance Parade in Portree on Sunday 13 November 2016. Skye Camanachd joined a number of other Services and organisations who remembered those who were killed in conflicts. The club was represented by Chairman Douglas MacDougall, Vice-Chairman Neil Montgomery, Committee member Ross Cowie and players Iain Murray, Ian MacPherson, Martin Pringle and Jamie Gillies. There was a two minutes silence at 11am after which Skye Camanachd stalwart Iain MacDougall placed a wreath at the War Memorial in Portree Square on behalf of the club. Iain MacDougall carried out his National Service with the Black Watch in Cyprus during the early 1960s. Two of his great uncles are remembered on the Portree War Memorial haven fallen at Festubert and the Somme. On his return to Skye, and with Skye Camanachd in abeyance during the latter half of the 1960s. Iain played shinty for neighbours Lochcarron. When Skye Camanachd returned to competitive action in 1969, Iain pulled on the Skye shirt and was a key player until he retired in 1979. Iain has maintained a keen interest in Skye Camanachd ever since and he is a current Vice President of the club. Parade Commander Thomas Wilson was a Lance Corporal with the 1stBattalion, The Parachute Regiment. He also plays shinty for the Skye Camanachd second team. Other Skye Camanachd members attended Remembrance Parades throughout the Island and beyond. Lest we forget. |
