Skye Camanachd Remembers | |
09 November 2014 Skye Camanachd took part in the Remembrance Parade in Portree on Sunday 9 November 2014. Skye Camanachd joined a number of other Services and groups from throughout the Island as they remembered those who were killed in conflicts. There was a two minutes silence after which Skye players Will Cowie and Caitlin MacLean placed a wreath at the War Memorial in Portree Square. Will Cowie’s Great Grandfather Sergent Major Billy Ross was killed in the Battle of Festubert in 1915 along with ten other Skye men. Billy Ross captained Skye Camanachd when the First World War broke out. Similar events have been held across the UK and abroad and this year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One, 70 years since the D-Day landings and the end of Britain's conflict in Afghanistan. Lest we forget. |
