Skye Camanachd Ladies Win 2013 Shinty National Sixes Draw | |
21 August 2013 The Skye Camanachd Ladies won the Skye Camanachd Ladies National Sixes at a wet and blustery Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 17 August 2013. This was the second year that the Skye Ladies have hosted this tournament with Glasgow Mid Argyll winning the 2012 event. The tournament, sponsored by Breton Coastal Homes, included five teams - two from Skye; and teams from Aberdour, Dunadd and Badenoch & Strathspey. After a double round-robin set of matches, Aberdour finished top of the group with Badenoch & Strathspey second, Skye A were third, Dunadd fourth and Skye B fifth. The first semi final saw Badenoch & Strathspey face Dunadd with Badenoch running out narrow 1-0 winners. The only goal of the game was scored by Jeanette McGregor. The second semi final was an even closer affair as Skye A faced group winners Aberdour. This match went into extra time before Skye’s Helen Lamond scored to give the Islanders a 2-1 victory and put them through to the final to play Badenoch & Strathspey. With the wind and the rain not letting up, both teams took to the field to battle it out one more time. It was a very even match with both teams creating chances. Lorna MacRae and Anna MacDonald both created good opportunities for Skye. Jeanette McGregor and Kirsty Dibble, who is a Skye Ladies player but guested for Badenoch throughout the competition as they were a player short, threatened for Badenoch but both keepers – Sarah Corrigall for Skye and Elizabeth MacGregor for Badenoch – kept their sides on level terms. The game ended 0-0 and so went into an extra time period. With just one minute remaining, and the final heading for penalties, Skye’s Lorna MacRae fired past keeper Elizabeth McGregor to win Skye the tournament. Skye captain Lorna MacRae collected the winner’s shield for her team. The player of the tournament’s award went to Badenoch keeper, Elizabeth McGregor for her outstanding performances through the day. Skye Ladies would like to offer a massive thank you too:
