Skye Camanachd Ladies Skipper North To Double Success | |
26 September 2017 Skye Camanachd Ladies players Sarah Corrigall and Emma Gordon captained the North seniors and U21s to a double success over their South counterparts at a wet Mossfield on Sunday 24 September 2017.
North 5 South 0 The North seniors defeated the South seniors 5-0 in their 3pm throw up. Two quick goals from Lovat's Laura Gallacher and Glenurquhart's Hazel Hunter gave the North a 2-0 lead. It took about 20 minutes for the South to get going but Badenoch's Elizabeth MacGregor denying them with some smart stops. A goal from Skye's Sarah Corrigall gave the North a 3-0 half-time lead. The South made a string start to the second half but they were unable to reduce the deficit. Strong centre line play from the North's Laura Gallacher kept providing the forwards with plenty goal scoring opportunities. However the South's defending coupled with some tremendous saves from GMA keeper Steph Keenan prevented them adding to their score until a break up the field was finished by Hazel Hunter, netting her second goal of the day. The North made it 5-0 following a goal line scramble with the ball going in off South defender Laura McCafferty. North captain Sarah Corrigall was presented the cup by Davie Hamilton of the Macaulay Association. Laura Gallacher was named player of the match.
North U21 10 South U21 0 Earlier in the day North U21 beat South U21 10-0 in their 1pm throw up. This year the age category was shifted to U21 in order to save the event as numbers are beginning to dwindle in the South. The North started on fire and took an early three goal lead with Badenoch's Zoe Reid, Megan Ralph and Lochaber's Alison MacVicar scoring early on to give them the advantage. The South battled on and some superb play from Aberdour's Rosie Mulligan and keeper Taryn Neilson kept them in the game before Glengarry's Leona Falconer came off the bench to make it 4-0 before half-time. Despite the heavy conditions, Zoe Reid completed her hat-trick, Megan Ralph and Alison MacVicar both grabbed braces and Lochaber's Mairi Duncan and Badenoch's Rhona Stewart completed the 10-0 scoreline. Skye's Emma Gordon lifted the trophy and The South's Rosie Mulligan was named player of the match. The Women's Camanachd Association passed on their thanks to the Macaulay Association for their continued sponsorship of this event. They also thanked Davie Hamilton for all his help, hospitality and organisation before and during the fixture. |
