Skye Camanachd Ladies Make It 3-In-A-Row At 2016 Johnstone Rose Bowl | |
06 February 2016 Skye Camanachd Ladies won the 19th Johnstone Indoor Tournament, giving them their third success in a row, at the Nevis Centre, Fort William on Saturday 6 February 2016. Skye Camanachd Ladies were the current holders having won the five-a-side tournament in 2015 and indeed in 2014. However they had to compete against a host of clubs from across the country without Lorna MacRae who suffered a dislocated elbow in the recent MacKinnon Memorial Shinty Sixes in Portree. Anna MacDonald also missed out. Skye Camanachd Ladies fielded two teams and the full tournament line-up was:
The teams were split into two groups with the top two teams from each qualifying for the semi-final stage. Skye A won League A whilst Lochaber A finished in second spot. Glasgow Mid Argyll came out on top in League B with Skye Camanachd A finishing second, ahead of Glengarry A only on goal difference. Skye Camanachd B met Skye Camanachd A in the first semi-final with Skye Camanachd B coming out as winners. Glasgow Mid Argyll looked set for a final spot when they went 3-0 ahead against Lochaber A in the second semi-final. However the Spean Bridge side scored three times to make it 3-3 before GMA notched a late winner to secure a place in the final. Skye Camanachd B and Glasgow Mid Argyll met in the final. The Glasgow side travelled with the minimum squad and they did not have any substitutes in any of their games. Skye Camanachd B continued their good form and the Islanders won 3-1. To round off a great day for Skye, Rhianna Kirk was named Player of the Tournament, selected by referees Duncan Kelly and Graham Cameron.
