Skye Camanachd Ladies 6 Lochaber Ladies 1 | |
17 April 2014 Skye Camanachd Ladies Head had their most convincing win of the season as they beat Lochaber Ladies in their WCA Marine Harvest National Division 1 match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 12 April 2014. Skye Ladies Head Coach Sarah Corrigall saw Catriona Gibb and Helen Lamond return to the squad for this noon throw up after missing the 1-0 win over Glengarry Ladies a fortnight earlier. They were included in place of Izzy Law and Kirsty Dibble. Ilana Paterson remains sidelined through injury. Lochaber joined Skye in gaining promotion to WCA Marine Harvest National Division 1 at the end of last season. Skye beat Lochaber in a tight play-off in order to win the WCA Marine Harvest North Division 2 title last season so both teams were very familiar with how eachother play and Skye seemed to use this to their advantage. Jenna Beaton was Skye’s top forward on the day, scoring a hat-trick in the opening 15 minutes of the game. The Lochaber defence, which is normally a strong unit, struggled to handle the movement of the Skye forwards and Lorna MacRae scored a wonder goal from 20 yards after she managed to slip her defender. Skye were by far the team with the momentum at half time break. Lochaber made some changes at the beginning of the second half to try and add more of an attacking threat to their team. With Missy Cameron controlling the middle of the park, Kirsty Delaney was moved to wing centre to support her and the ever deadly Zoe Smith was moved to wing forward. However the Skye team wasn’t fazed by these changes and midfielders Emma Gordon and Catriona Gibb battled hard to prevent the ball getting past the centre line. On the few occasions that it did, defenders Nicola MacSween and Caitlin MacLean were equally as efficient in protecting their goal area. Skye extended their lead with Jenna Beaton taking her tally to four goals and Anna MacDonald scoring her first goal of the season to make it 6-0. Lochaber’s determination not to give up was rewarded in the closing stages when Kirsty MacDonald sent a wonderful ball across the goal from the left wing which landed perfectly in the path of Zoe Smith and she made no mistake, burying her chance into the roof of the net to pull a goal back and make the final score 6-1. In the other WCA Marine Harvest National Division 1 matches played at the weekend, Glasgow Mid Argyll beat Badenoch & Strathspey 6-0 and Aberdour had a 3-2 win over Glengarry at Craigard.
