Skye Camanachd Ladies 2 Badenoch & Strathspey Ladies 4 (after extra-time) - UPDATED! | |
23 June 2015 It took extra-time to separate Skye Camanachd Ladies and Badenoch & Strathspey Ladies in their Valerie Fraser Cup semi-final tie at Mossfield on Sunday 21 June 2015. Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Robbie Gordon welcomed Caitlin MacLean, Catriona Gibb, Izzy Law and Helen Lamond back into his squad after they all missed the defeat against Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies in the team’s last outing. Marine Harvest National Division 1 leaders Badenoch are undefeated this season and they named a strong squad for this 3pm throw up. Badenoch opened the scoring with Rhona McIntyre on target to make it 1-0 and they took this lead into the half-time break. Skye suffered a blow early in the second half when Catriona Gibb took a knock to the knee and she had to come off. Helen Lamond replaced her with Lamont going in goal and Sarah Corrigall joined Lorna MacRae in a revamped Skye forward line. Caitlin MacLean dropped back to full centre. Sarah Corrigall and Lorna MacRae were linking up well in the Skye attack and they combined to conjure up an equaliser with MacRae playing a one-two with Corrigall before sending a great drive into the back of the net to make it 1-1. There was no further scoring in the final 10 minutes of the match so referee Deek Cameron took the tie to an extra-time period. Mairi Stewart put Badenoch back in front but Skye fought back and Sarah Corrigall made it 2-2. Kirsty Deans was becoming very influential for Badenoch and with penalties looming, Badenoch made one last push and they were rewarded when Mairi Stewart got her second and Kirsty Deans also netted to make it 4-2 and there was no way back for Skye. Badenoch & Strathspey Ladies will now face holders Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies in the Valerie Fraser Cup Final after GMA beat Lochaber Ladies 5-0 in their semi-final tie which was also played at Mossfield earlier in the afternoon.
