The Skye Camanachd Ladies 2013 Player of the Year awards were announced at the club’s Annual Dinner Dance at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse on Saturday 25 January 2014.
Skye Camanachd Ladies Player of the Year – Lorna MacRae
Scotland senior cap Lorna MacRae was named the 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies Player of the Year for the third year in a row.
Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Sarah Corrigall said, “Lorna scored 30 goals last year and her speed and her skill made her untouchable for most of the season. She represented Skye at club level, national level and international level last season. Lorna has so much untapped potential and she is not far away from being one of the best players in women’s shinty.”
Lorna MacRae made it a hat-trick of awards as she was named Skye Camanachd Players’ Player of the Year and she also collected the Golden Ball as Skye Camanachd Ladies top goal scorer.
Skye Camanachd Ladies Most Improved Player of the Year - Helen Lamond
The 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies Most Improved Player of the Year award went to Helen Lamond who was also joint Marine Harvest North Division 2 Player of the Year.
Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Sarah Corrigall said, “Helen has more than just improved this year, she has transformed into an exceptional and outstanding shinty player. She is a phenomenal reader of the game and an incredible leader from the middle of the field. Helen has the potential to become one of the most formidable full centres in the women's game.”
Helen Lamond was named Skye Camanachd Ladies Most Promising Player of the Year in 2012 and she also won the 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies Goal of the Season accolade for one of her two goals (and her memorable celebration) in the league match at Ardnamurchan.
Skye Camanachd Ladies Most Promising Player of the Year – Izzy Law
The 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies Most Promising Player of the Year award went to Izzy Law.
Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Sarah Corrigall said, “Izzy doesn't know it but she is one of our powerhouses in the team. She is a most courageous and determined but delightful girl and she will run for ever! Izzy has much more to bring to the team and will be enthralling to watch her grow into a superb player over the next season.”
Skye Camanachd Ladies Young Player of the Year – Emma Gordon
The 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies Young Player of the Year award went to Emma Gordon.
Emma Gordon was part of the North U18 which faced the South in Oban last year.
Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Sarah Corrigall said, “Emma has shown great potential throughout the past season. For such a young age, Emma has shown a great understanding of the game. She is a strong, reliable and intelligent player and it will be exciting to watch her develop into the great player that she'll become over future seasons.”
