09 April 2023 Skye Camanachd A went down 5-0 to their Badenoch counterparts in their Mowi Division match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 8 April 2023. Skye went into this noon throw up on the back of a league win over Ardnamurchan A whilst reigning champions Badenoch lost their opening day league fixture at Lochaber before defeating Aberdour A. Skye Head Coach Jenna Beaton, herself side-lined with a shoulder injury, was missing key players Holly Maclean, Caitlin MacLean, Ilana Paterson and Leah MacLeod whilst Sarah Yoxon and Katherine Dibble played despite not being fully fit. Badenoch Head Coach Scott Campbell had a full squad to choose for this meeting between the sides who finished in the top two places in the league last season. The match was closer than the scoreline suggests but, by the end of the match, Kirsty Deans scored four times with Zoe Reid getting the other to give the visitors a 5-0 victory. Badenoch opened with the wind advantage and Kirsty Deans gave them a 10 minute lead. A surging Deans run and shot by keeper Sarah Jane Ferguson gave the visitors their second midway through the half and she completed her hat-trick with a killer third goal just before the break. A fine save from Badenoch keeper Elizabeth McGregor thwarted Sarah Yoxon, preventing Skye pulling a goal back. However, McGregor injured her knee in the process and was replaced in goal by her twin Jeannette McGregor. Katherine Dibble and Sarah Yoxon saw efforts well-saved by the stand-in goalie as Skye just couldn’t claim the goal that would get them back into the game. After weathering the storm, Zoe Reid and a fourth from Kirsty Deans put Badenoch out of sight as the notched a 5-0 victory. Christina MacDonald was excellent in the Skye defence. The only downside for Badenoch was the knee injury suffered by the influential player Elizabeth McGregor and it was later confirmed she faced a spell on the side-lines. Skye Head Coach Jenna Beaton said: “With the missing players, it was far from ideal but, in fairness, the young ones who came in did really well so I was really happy with the team performance. “Badenoch travelled with a with a full squad and whilst we a bit slow in the first half, our second half performance was really good, with a lot more fight, and we were unlucky not to score.” Skye Camanachd A from: Sarah Jane Ferguson: Katherine Dibble, Christina MacDonald, Sadie MacDonald: Lexy MacLeod, Rhianna Kirk, Molly MacKinnon: Teri MacLeod, Sarah Yoxon, Catherine Robertson: subs Ruby MacLeod, Lilidh Campbell, Katie MacDonald, Ceitidh Douglas Badenoch A from: Elizabeth McGregor: Rona Stewart, Kirsty Grant, Sarah Caird: Mairi Stewart, Megan Ralph (captain), Rhona McIntyre: Kirsty Deans, Zoe Reid, Jeanette McGregor: subs Eilidh Ross, Hope Borthwick, Chloe Baikie, Ellie Miller Match Referee – Keith MacKenzie
