Skye Camanachd 7 Strathglass 0 | |
24 June 2019 Skye Camanachd beat Strathglass 7-0 in their Mowi National Division match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 22 June 2019. William MacKinnon and Stewart Grant both returned for Skye for this 3pm throw up, taking their places in midfield, but Iain Nicolson joined James Pringle and James Morrison on the absentee list. Lewis Douglas was banned for the visitors following his red card in the defeat to Skye a fortnight earlier. Injury also ruled our skipper Josh Fraser and Scott Douglas whilst Hamish Myers and Michael Stokes were also unavailable. This match was broadcast LIVE online and on radio on Cuillin FM’s Camanachd LIVE show and Skye opened playing towards the Skeabost end of the ground. Skye took the lead on 8 minutes. Ally MacAdams initially made a great double-save to deny Jordan Murchison and then Ross Gordon. Will Cowie went for Ross Gordon’s corner from the right but the ball came to John Gillies who swept it low into the corner of the net, on the keeper’s right side. Ross Gordon added a second on 16 minutes. Strathglass failed to clear Stewart Grant’s hit-in from the left and with John Gillies, Ross MacKinnon and Ross Gordon all involved, it was Gordon who scored. John Gillies got his second a couple of minutes later, giving keeper Ally MacAdams no chance as he drove the ball low into the corner of the net following Ross MacKinnon’s hit-in from the right. Skye took full control on the half-hour when a clearance out of the Strath defence came to full centre William MacKinnon 12 yards out and his first-time shot flew past the keeper make it 4-0 at the break. Skye replaced John Gillies with Iain MacLennan at half-time with Gillies feeling a tight hamstring. Jordan Murchison, to the left of the penalty spot, firmly turned home an Iain MacLennan pass from the left on 69 minutes whilst Ross Gordon got his second on 77 minutes when a clearance came to him right of centre and he powered the ball into the net to make it 6-0. Iain MacLennan blasted home a great shot from the right of the D to make it 7-0 and there was only enough time to restart the match before referee Archie Ritchie blew for time. Skye could have had more goals with Will Cowie particularly unlucky not to have scored and keeper Ally MacAdams and defenders Donald Fraser and Thomas MacLean did very well for the visitors.
