Skye Camanachd 6 Kinlochshiel 0 | |
12 August 2018 Skye Camanachd ran out 6-0 winners in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 11 August 2018. Skye manager Kenny MacLeod fielded a strong side for this second team derby and kept faith with Lorna MacRae who played so well on her debut the previous week. In a late change, Chris Rose dropped out of the squad with player / manager MacLeod listed in his place. ‘Shiel boss Willie MacRae fielded a very young side and he missed Scott MacLean and Fraser MacVicar who were called up by the first team. Nathan Whear was also missing. This noon throw up was broadcast LIVE on radio and online on Cuillin FM. Skye started the match playing towards the Skeabost end of the ground. ‘Shiel goalie Graham Kennedy made two good saves – one with his stick and one with his feet - to prevent Angie MacDonald giving Skye an early lead. Iain Nicolson ghosted forward from his full centre role on 24 minutes and he hit a great shot high into the net from left of centre to put the hosts in front. Ross Gordon added a second on the half-hour mark when he gathered a Lorna MacRae ball from the right and he took a touch and turned before rifling the ball into the roof of the net. Another good stop from keeper Kennedy kept out a Lorna MacRae effort as the play continued towards the ‘Shiel goal. The visiting goal had a let off when Iain Nicolson ran forward and played in Ross Gordon but his shot came off the keeper’s stick and hit the inside of the post before being cleared for a corner. ‘Shiel hadn’t threatened the Skye goal until a minute before the break when young substitute Archie MacRae hit a shot from wide on the right which was saved with his hand by Skye goalie Ryan Morrison. Graham Kennedy made another save from Lorna MacRae with 20 minutes remaining but Ross Gordon sent the rebound high into the net. Ross Gordon completed his hat-trick on 81 minutes when he took down a high ball from Iain Nicolson and blasted it past the keeper to make it 4-0. Graham Kennedy made another fine stop to deny Skye substitute David MacInnes a goal. Skye added a fifth with just 4 minutes remaining as a nice passing move ended with Stewart Taylor’s shot rebounding off the post to Lorna MacRae on the right side and, with the home support willing her to score, she fired the ball home to get her first goal at second team level, receiving the biggest cheer of the day in the process. As the match moved into injury time, Skye cut through the ‘Shiel defence with a good passing move which ended when a Stewart Taylor shot was saved but Ross Gordon was again on hand to turn home the rebound, claiming his fourth goal of the afternoon to make the final score 6-0.
