Skye Camanachd 6 Inverness 0 | |
07 April 2015 The Skye Camanachd second team beat their Inverness counter-parts 6-0 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 4 April 2015. Skye Camanachd reserve boss Davie Pringle was back on the touchline after missing the win over Aberdeen University at Balgownie last weekend. His sixteen man pool included four changes from the trip East with Ryan Morrison, Chris MacLennan, Stewart Grant and John Gillies all missing. Paul MacKinnon, David Grant, Kyle Pirie, Chris Campbell and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod were added to the squad but Paul MacKinnon and Chris Campbell were late call-offs. Aonghas MacDonald came into the side in goal. Inverness player / manager Jason MacLeod was without several regulars including former Fort William player Davie Duncan, Clive Girvan, Craig Girvan, Donnie Forbes and Chris Johnson who was on first team duty. The squad included three 13 year olds; U14 captain Hannah Johnson, Mike Chisholm and Jack Craig and the (slightly) older Peter Gow who was on the bench. Skye played towards the Struan Road end of the ground and they pressed the Inverness goal from the throw up. The constant pressure paid off after 21 minutes. Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod showed good close control to wriggle through the visiting defence and slotting the ball home to make it 1-0. Inverness full back Jason MacLeod was accidently caught on the side of the head by a trailing caman in the build up to the goal. He received treatment from the Skye Camanachd medics with the game was stopped for almost 5 minutes. A strapped up MacLeod, who later required five stitches to the wound, moved to the forward line with former Kinlochshiel player Stuart MacRae dropping back into defence. Skye continued to attack the Inverness goal and a James Pringle shot on 34 minutes was saved by Inverness keeper Allan MacLeod who turned the ball away for a corner on the Skye left. DJ Gilpin played the corner into the danger-area and James Pringle showed great awareness to get onto the ball and he sent a first time shot, low into the net with 35 minutes played. Allan MacLeod made a fantastic save from James Pringle on 45 minutes but with 3 minutes of stoppage time played, Skye increased their advantage. The home side were awarded a free-hit by referee Martin MacLean and when the ball was played to Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod, he tucked it low into the net to bag his second goal of the match. Skye boss Davie Pringle pushed defender Alan Palmer into attack at the break and the switch was to prove significant. Allan MacLeod once more denied James Pringle on 55 minutes when he dashed from his line to close down the Skye forward. Alan Palmer added a fourth on 59 minutes with a shoulder-high shot from the right which deceived visiting goalie Allan MacLeod. Palmer got his second when he burst into the D on 72 minutes and although his first effort was blocked, he slotted the rebound low into the net to make it 5-0. Iain MacLellan rounded off the scoring when he made it 6-0 in stoppage time. Ross Nicolson played in a shy from the right which Alan Palmer played into MacLellan’s path and he netted to keep Skye at the top of the table. This is the first of a double-header between the two sides over successive Saturdays as they meet in the first round of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup at the same venue next weekend.
