Skye Camanachd 4 Beauly 0 | |
18 April 2022 Skye Camanachd beat Beauly 4-0 in their cottage.com MacTavish Cup quarter-final tie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 16 April 2022. Skye manager Kenny Macleod gave Neil MacVicar his first start since his return from Kyles Athletic and he took the full centre role with Will Cowie going to full forward. Beauly co-managers Gregor MacCormick and Niall MacLennan were without MacKay Murray so Lennox Stewart made his top flight debut in goal. A hamstring problem ruled out David MacLean but Jack MacDonald was included as he continues his recovery from injury. This 3pm throw up was broadcast LIVE on Radio Skye’s “Camanachd LIVE” show. Beauly, opening with a strong wind in their favour towards the Skeabost end of the ground, dominated the early stages but it was Skye who opened the scoring on 18 minutes. Clever play from Danny Morrison saw him shoot goalwards. Lennox Stewart saved but as the rebound rose into the air, Skye skipper Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod ran in from the right and he stretched to touch the ball into the net at the keeper’s right post. Ross Gordon added a second on 27 minutes. Beauly were unable to clear their lines and James Pringle won possession before running forward and finding Gordon running towards the right of the D and with the keeper coming off his line, Gordon calmly slotted the ball into the net. Skye brought Jordan Murchison on for an injured Ross Gordon early in the second half and it was Murchison who added Skye’s third on 63 minutes. Another substitute, Sam Macphee played a hit-in from the left which Beauly didn’t clear and Ross MacKinnon forced a save from Lennox Stewart but Jordan Murchison reacted before the Beauly defence to score from close in. Ross Forbes missed a good opportunity for the visitors from the restart as he sent a shot wide of Skye keeper Murphy Henderson’s left post which pretty much summed up Beauly’s afternoon. Jordan Murchison got his second on 75 minutes when he exchanged passes with James Pringle before tucking the ball low into the net from a tight angle on the right. Pringle was being fouled as he released the ball but referee Iain Kennedy played a good advantage. Skye are now the only non-top flight club in Friday’s cottages.com MacTavish Cup semi-final draw.
