Skye Camanachd 3 Kinlochshiel 1 (After extra-time) | |
12 April 2022 Skye Camanachd were 3-1 winners against Kinlochshiel in their second team derby, a 3pm throw up at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 9 April 2022. Neither Skye nor ‘Shiel had a first team fixture and a good-sized crowd gathered on a bright but cold afternoon. Skye were along usual lines with the exception of defender Allan MacLeod who was unavailable whilst Ruaraidh MacLeod returned after a period away playing football and Jamie Gillies played for the first time this season. ‘Shiel had a strong core to their side with Duncan Matheson at buckshee back, Rowen Myers at centre and Archie MacRae at buckshee forward. This 3pm throw up was broadcast LIVE on Radio Skye’s “Camanachd LIVE” show. Skye opened towards the Skeabost end of the ground and the closest we came to a first half goal was a swerving Archie MacRae shot which was brilliantly saved with his club by Skye goalie Calum Nicolson. ‘Shiel took the lead from the penalty spot on 56 minutes. Referee John Matheson penalised a kick after consulting his goal judge. Skye levelled on 63 minutes through Archie Millar. Again the offence was a kick and again the goal judge was consulted. Skye got stronger as the tie went on but it remained 1-1 until the end of the 90 minutes so extra-time ensued. A good strike into the corner of the net through a ruck of players at the top goal from substitute game Angus Gilpin gave Skye a 101 minute lead. Skye sealed their place in the next round on 108 minutes. Angus Gilpin flashed a shot goalwards from the edge of the D following a ball from the left. ‘Shiel keeper Calum MacMillan made an outstanding reflex save above his head with his club but when the ball dropped, Gilpin made sure it went over the line for his second goal of the game.
