03 June 2019 The Skye Camanachd seconds and the Kinlochshiel seconds drew 0-0 in their Mowi North Division 1 match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 1 June 2019. Skye opened this noon throw up hitting towards the Skeabost end of the pitch. ‘Shiel created the game’s first chance when Keith MacRae surged forward from full centre and when the ball broke to Duncan Matheson on the left; his high shot was brilliantly turned over the bar by Skye keeper Murphy Henderson. Archie MacRae then had a chance from a corner on the right but Skye managed to scramble the ball clear. Skye then went close when a long ball over ‘Shiel full back Colin MacDiarmid found Angie MacDonald in space to the right of the D but keeper Sandy MacDiarmid saved well with his stick at the expense of a corner. Minutes later, another Angie MacDonald effort went over the top and then MacDiarmid saved with his feet from Taylor Matheson with the home forwards unable to get to the rebound. When John Angus MacInnes won the ball in the Skye midfield, some good play on the left saw Ian MacPherson find Daniel Morrison but MacDiarmid saved again; this time with a foot. ‘Shiel went back on the attack and a defence-splitting pass from Stuart MacRae found Arron Jack but Murphy Henderson again made the stop. Sandy MacDiarmid again saved with his foot to deny Angie MacDonald whilst Arron Jack shot over following a neat ’Shiel passing move which came with 5 first half minutes remaining. Skye introduced Ewen MacKinnon in place of Angie MacDonald with Daniel Morrison going to full forward. A long ball forward found Stuart MacRae who shot goalwards at the third attempt but was unlucky to see his strike crack back off the keeper’s right post. Keith MacRae then broke forward from midfield and he had a good chance when he got sight of goal on the right but he blazed a shot over the top. Murphy Henderson saved with his feet and then cleared from Duncan Matheson before Matheson played in Stuart MacRae but Henderson again saved with his feet before clearing his lines. Skye responded and Taylor Matheson made a great run down the left wing before playing the ball across the D but Angie MacDonald, who had come back on for Cameron MacKay, just couldn’t get on the end of it. Taylor Matheson made another darting run from the left. He was fouled before firing the ball into the net but referee Steven MacLachlan had already blown for the infringement. Skye finished strongly as Iain MacPherson drove down the left before picking out Daniel Morrison in a central position but his shot went by the keeper’s right post. John Angus MacInnes then found Taylor Matheson who made space before shooting by the keeper’s right post. Skye skipper Sam MacPhee had a good match at buckshee back but he had to swap positions with Ewen MacKinnon with 5 minutes remaining after being troubled with an ankle problem. Other than Taylor Matheson’s disallowed effort, both teams lacked the required composure in front of goal to win the game.
