Skye Camanachd 0 Glengarry 5 | |
13 June 2022 The Skye Camanachd second team lost 5-0 against Glengarry in their Mowi North Division 1 match against Glengarry at Pairc nan Laoch Portree on Saturday 11 June 2022. It was a wet and wild summer’s day for this 12.30pm throw up with the constant wind and rain making it difficult for both sets of players. Skye Camanachd captain Ian MacPherson won the toss of the coin and opted to play with the wind in the first half. However ‘Garry went ahead on 4 minutes with a well-constructed goal. Shaun Nicolson went by his marker and found Nick Dalgety in space on the right and from 25 yards; he powered a shot into the roof of the net. ‘Garry doubled their lead on 8 minutes when a ball floated from midfield picked out Raymond Robertson on the left and he turned his marker and slipped a nice ball to Rhuairaidh MacDonald who fired low inside keeper Calum Nicolson’s right hand post. Skye had chances but couldn’t hit the target and the closest they came was Archie Millar’s 15 yard strike which went wide of the upright so it remained 2-0 at the turnaround. The visitors, now with the elements, made a bright start to the second half and on 48 minutes, when Skye substitute Allan MacLeod mishit a clearance, the ball came to Nick Dalgety who still had plenty to do but he sent the ball screaming into the keeper’s top right hand corner of the net to score a great goal. Glengarry scored again on 72 minutes when a ball looped into the D wasn’t dealt with by the home defence and young Jack West flicked the ball past Skye keeper Calum Nicolson and Nick Dalgety was free to tap the ball over the line to complete his hat-trick. Just 4 minutes later, Rhuairaidh MacDonald won the ball following a poor clearance out of the Skye defence and, from 15 yards out on the right, he jabbed the ball forward and it bobbled by the keeper, inside his left post. The final 15 minutes were closer but, in the end, ‘Garry more than deserved the win and both sets of players were glad to get off the field for a warm shower. Young Skye defender William James Sutherland played well against Rhuairaidh MacDonald who was a handful whilst the Glengarry forward line were strong with Nick Dalgety deserving the man of the match tag for his hat-trick and his overall performance.
