Skye Boss John MacLeod Sets Out Backroom Team Roles | |
13 January 2014 New Skye Camanachd first team manager John MacLeod has spelt out the various roles his backroom team will undertake during the 2014 shinty season. John MacLeod will be aided in his new role by assistant managers Aonghas MacDonald and Davie Pringle. New boss MacLeod said, “Aonghas and Davie will assume the usual assistant manager duties and they will stand in for me if I have to miss a game through work commitments but I hope this won’t be very often. Aonghas has been Skye Camanachd first team manager and assistant manager before so he knows what it is all about. Davie has had a very successful time coaching youngsters at Portree Primary School and he has also helped me with the Skye U14s. He has been heavily involved in the pre-season training so far and his fitness training is really well structured.” Former Skye Camanachd manager Ally “Mhor” Morrison and Donnie “Digg” MacDonald also bring a wealth of experience to their match-day roles. Both have played through the ranks at Skye Camanachd with MacDonald winning a Camanachd Cup medal in 1990 and Morrison leading the team to a Balliemore success as first team manager in 2008. John MacLeod said, “Ally and Donnie will be in attendance on match days and their role will be to both provide feedback on how Skye are performing during a game, what changes we could make etc and to give their views on how we can gain any advantage against the opposition.” Another former Skye player, Douglas MacDougall completes the backroom team. MacDougall’s job with the Police has meant that he has spent many years away from the Island. However this will change when he retires from the force later in the year and he too will take on specific match-day tasks. “Douglas will ensure that everything runs smoothly off the park on the day of a game,” said MacLeod. “He will see to the many duties such as team-lines, kit, camans, changing rooms, organising goal judges etc and that will allow me, Aonghas and Davie to focus on preparing the team for the game.” MacLeod is currently finalising a series of pre-season friendly fixtures which will be announced in due course. |
