Shinty’s Heroes - “Curaidhean na Camanachd” – Set For Celtic Connections | |
30 January 2014 An adapted version of Shinty’s Heroes - “Curaidhean na Camanachd” – is set to take centre stage at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on Sunday 2 February 2014. The Glasgow version of the show will focus on the great losses suffered by shinty teams in areas such as Ballachulish and the City of Glasgow itself. Shinty’s Heroes - “Curaidhean na Camanachd” - was one of the outstanding successes of this year’s Blas Festival and will now be reprised as part of Celtic Connections. The show was originally performed on the eve of the 2013 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final. Commemorating the centenary of the Great War, Blas 2013 saluted its sporting heroes, many of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice, and focused particularly on the extraordinary story of the Patersons of Beauly who played in the 1913 Final. Amongst the stellar list of guests lined up by Musical Director Gary Innes, are renowned fiddler Duncan Chisholm from Cannich, master piper Duncan MacGillivray from Easter Ross, singers Norrie MacIver and Kathleen MacInnes, along with Allan Henderson, Iain MacFarlane and the one and only Fergie MacDonald. The show is presented by Hugh Dan MacLennan. The draw for the first round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup will also take place at the event as musician Phil Cunningham and Celtic Connections’ Director Donald Shaw of Taynuilt, who are appearing in the Transatlantic Sessions, will team up with the cast of Shinty’s Heroes, to pull the teams out of the bag. Shinty’s Heroes is at the Mitchell Theatre, Glasgow as part of Celtic Connections 2014. The show starts at 8pm. For more information and to buy tickets, click here.
