02 February 2014 The draw was made for the first round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 2 February 2014. Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson was present as the draw was made by musician Phil Cunningham and Celtic Connections’ Director Donald Shaw of Taynuilt, who are appearing in the Transatlantic Sessions, They teamed up with the cast of Shinty’s Heroes, which is showing at the Mitchell Theatre later in the evening, to pull the teams out of the bag. The first round draw, which doesn’t include the eight teams from the Orion Group Premiership, has thrown up some great ties. There are two all-National League ties as Fort William travel to Yoker to face Glasgow Mid Argyll whilst Beauly have home advantage against Oban Camanachd. Inverness have been drawn away in all cup competitions this season but at least this draw sees them make the relatively short journey to Cannich to take on Strathglass. Skye Camanachd are off to Dalmally to play Glenorchy at Mart Park. There are two all-South ties as Ballachulish host Oban Celtic and Bute welcome Kilmory. Strachur have home advantage against Kilmallie. Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson said, “I am delighted Phil and Donald were able to take part in today’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup draw. Shinty is of course part of the culture celebrated at Celtic Connections and makes its own contribution to the festival with tonight’s Shinty Heroes event. The draw has thrown up some interesting ties that set the scene for another exciting competition.” Jonny Petrie, Head of Sponsorship Strategy with Scottish Hydro, said, “We are very proud to continue our association with the game of shinty as supporting local communities and grassroots sport is important to us. To see shinty play a role in such a prominent cultural festival as Celtic Connections highlights its importance to the communities in which it’s played and we’re looking forward to a great season.” This year’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final will take place at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 13 September 2014.
