Scotland U21 Head Coach Garry Reid Names 2015 Shinty / Hurling Squad | |
14 October 2015 Scotland U21 Head Coach Garry Reid has named his squad for the Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling international against Ireland U21 at the Bught Park on Saturday 24 October 2015. There are ten changes to the squad which won on Irish soil for the first time last year. Skye’s Iain MacLeod replaces Innes MacDonald in goal but the Kyles man features in this year’s squad as a midfielder. Caberfeidh’s Craig Morrison joins his brother Blair Morrison in the pool and there is a first call-up for Skye’s Jordan Murchison who has scored 32 goals already this season. Kinlochshiel first team regulars Donald Nixon, who missed out last year with a broken finger, and Jordan Fraser win caps as does Beauly’s Ewan Campbell who started his shinty career with Uist Camanachd. Oban Camanachd’s Gary McKerracher featured in 2013 when he played for Oban Celtic. He missed out last year as he was on holiday but he is a useful addition for this year. Beauly’s Jack MacDonald also played in 2013 and he is another who has earned a recall. Kingussie’s Rory MacGregor and Glenorchy’s John MacNulty are new caps. The changes see Michael Russell (Newtonmore), Zac Coley (Kyles Athletic), Finlay MacMillan (Glasgow Mid Argyll), Fraser Heath (Glenurquhart), Lewis Tawse (Lovat), Ally MacDonald (Inveraray), Malcolm Clark, (Oban Camanachd), Greg Matheson (Lovat), Arran MacPhee Fort William) Stuart Callison (Lochaber) all drop out for various reasons including age-eligibility, promotion to the senior squad, relocation abroad and injury. The Ireland U21 squad has yet to be announced but it is believed to include Waterford’s All-Star nominee Austin Gleeson and Wexford’s exciting forward Conor McDonald. There is also a place for Donegal’s Shane Gallen with all players getting through two trials.
