Scotland Ladies Head Coach Stuart Reid has announced his squad for the 2014 Shinty / Camogie international against Irish opposition in Newry over the weekend 25-26 October 2014.
Scotland Head Coach Reid is in his second year charge and he led the squad to an impressive win over Dublin last year at the Bught Park, Inverness.
Reid held a series of three open training sessions during May, June and July at venues across the country. They were open to all players to come along and put themselves in the running for selection. The final open session took place at a very successful WCA Development Camp weekend at Strathallan School on Sunday 6 July 2014.
Reid has gone with the same backroom team as last year so he will be assisted by Yvonne Connaughton, Scott Campbell and Eoghan Stewart.
Members of the Scotland coaching team attended several league matches across the country in the lead-up to the squad selection in order to view players in a match environment.
Reid has named a 20 strong squad with four additions to last year’s 19 player squad and three players dropping out. There is a first call-up for Skye Camanachd’s Caitlin MacLean and she will be joined by team mate Lorna MacRae who wins her third cap. Niamh Donnelly from Aberdour, GMA’s Alannah Savage and Lochaber’s Kirsty MacDonald are also additions.
GMA pair Alana McGarrie and Kirsty Gray drop out although Gray is on the reserve list. There is also no place for Skye Camanachd’s Jenna Beaton who was unable to attend the sessions as she is building a house.
