Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil On Possible Shinty / Hurling Rule Changes | |
19 December 2013 Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil has a couple of ideas which he believes would improve the Shinty / Hurling spectacle. McNeil, who assisted previous Scotland managers Ally Ferguson and Fraser MacKenzie before he assumed the Head Coaches role in 2010 said, “There are a couple of changes which I believe would be beneficial for Shinty / Hurling series going forward. One positive change would be to play our home match earlier in the year. If we could play in the Inverness test when the pitches in Scotland are better, it would certainly help Scotland’s chances. There have been recent talks about playing our home leg in say April, and the Irish seem responsive to this. We could still play the Irish test later in the year which would be fine for us as the Croke Park pitch is in super condition all year long.” McNeil added, “A second positive change would simply be to make the hurlers have both hands on their stick when they tackle. This would cut out a lot of the pulling and tugging and make for a better overall spectacle.” Picture courtesy of www.neilgpaterson.com |
