The final preparations are in place ahead of the Festubert Commemoration weekend in Portree which starts on Friday 15 May 2015.
The detailed timeline is as follows:
Friday 15 May - Primary shinty – Pairc nan Laoch
1250 - Both Portree Primary Schools and Kingussie Primary and referee piped onto park. After referee’s chat players take positions and then 1 minute silence.
1300 - Portree Primary School v Kingussie Primary School
At the end of game, Captain Robert Stoddard, SCOTS Camanachd, will present commemorative medals to all players. Skye Camanachd Ladies / Social Club have kindly agreed to prepare refreshments in the clubhouse.
Saturday 16 May – Shinty – Pairc nan Laoch
0900 – Access required to clubhouse for the Archive Centre / Skye / Kingussie finish off shinty exhibition in dining room area
1050 – Skye / SCOTS and referee John Angus Gillies piped onto park (lone piper). After referee’s chat players take positions and then 1 minute silence
1100 – Skye Camanachd v SCOTS Camanachd (if there is inclement weather this game may be transferred to the Portree High School All Weather pitch)
1105 - Shinty exhibition opens
1140 – Half time
1150 – 2nd half
1200 – RNLI to set up BBQ.
1230 – Skye Ladies and Strathspey & Badenoch Ladies change at Girl’s Hostel.
1230 – Skye / SCOTS game concludes and the pitch is prepared for ladies game
1235 – Presentation of commemorative medals and hand-over of WW1 statue to SCOTS Camanachd. North Skye Branch of the British Legion Scotland has donated this statue and will present to SCOTS
1245 - Skye Ladies and Strathspey & Badenoch Ladies and referee David MacVicar are piped onto park (lone piper). After referee’s chat players take positions and then 1 minute silence.
1250 – WCA ND1 - Skye Camanachd Ladies v Strathspey & Badenoch Camanachd Ladies (if there is inclement weather this game may be transferred to High School All Weather pitch)
1330 – Half time
1340 – 2nd half Skye Camanachd Ladies v Strathspey & Badenoch Camanachd Ladies
1420 – Ladies game finishes and immediately followed by presentation of commemorative medals by Lady Lucilla Noble
1425 – Performance by the Isle of Skye Pipe Band
1450 – Skye / Kingussie and referee John Angus Gillies are piped onto pitch.
Possible team photographs then players take position after referee’s chat and 1 minute silence.
1500 – Skye Camanachd v Kingussie Camanachd
1545 – Half time
1555 – 2nd half starts
1630 – Archive Centre start ‘closing down’ shinty exhibition and clear away items
1640 – Main game finishes (if a draw, straight to 5 penalties)
Presentation of trophy and commemorative medals by family of John ‘Kaid’ MacLean
Presentation of WW1 statues by Ian MacDougall and Calum Matheson
1715 – Changing rooms cleaned up
Highland Council Civic Reception
1900 to 2100 - Fingal Centre. All available players and Committee to attend wearing shirt, club tie and Skye jersey if possible. Portree Community Centre are responsible for bar and catering (finger buffet) with invites sent out by the Chief Executive’s Office, Highland Council.
2100 to 2300 - Portree Community Centre will keep bar open and provide entertainment.
Sunday 17 May - Remembrance Parade
Parade is being organised by North Skye Branch Royal British Legion. A number of members of the Badenoch & Strathspey Branch will also be present on the parade. The Skye Camanachd wreath is to be laid by Billy MacKinnon.
