Portree Retain 2014 National Primary School Girls Shinty Tournament | |
09 March 2014 Portree Primary School won the 2014 National Primary School Girls Shinty Tournament which took place at the Fingal Centre at Portree High School on Saturday 8 March 2014. There were four Skye teams taking part in the eight team competition - Bracadale, Dunvegan, Portree and South End – as well Grantown and three teams from Ardnamurchan. The four Skye teams qualified for the semi final stage. South End were winners against Dunvegan whilst it took two late goals for Portree to defeat a battling Bracadale side 3-1. Portree ran out winners, beating South End 5-1 in the final. This is the second time the completion has taking place with Portree now winning on both occasions. The winning Portree team was: Holly MacLean, Anna MacPhee, Abby MacLean (captain), Holly MacPhee, Ceitidh Smith, Mairi MacDonald, Charlotte Gordon, Gemma Taylor, Morag Anna Matheson On a good day for the Skye teams, Bracadale finished third with Dunvegan in fourth place The Skye Camanachd Ladies ran a tuck shop throughout the event. Highlife Highland Active Schools Coordinator Sarah Ross said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all coaches and parents for getting the teams together to attend the day, especially those travelling from Ardnamurchan and Grantown. A big thanks goes to the Skye Camanachd Ladies who provided referees, score keepers and they also ran the tuck shop. Thanks also go to Scottish Water for providing bottled water for the day. Hopefully with the increase in girls playing shinty we can look to increase entries for next year’s competition.” |
