Newtonmore U17 Lift 2015 Marine Harvest London Shield | |
24 November 2015 Newtonmore U17 lifted the 2015 Marine Harvest London Shield as a goal in each half gave them a 2-0 win over Oban Camanachd U17 at Cannich on Saturday 21 November 2015. The final was originally scheduled for Mossfield the previous weekend but was postponed as the pitch was water-logged. Glengarry’s Craigard pitch was set as the venue for the rearranged game this weekend but that was also ruled unplayable so an early decision was made to change the venue to Cannich. Kingussie’s ground, the Dell, was put on stand-by in case there are any late problems at Cannich but it wasn’t required. The teams met at senior level at the Bught Park last weekend. Oban Camanachd started that game with Ross MacMillan in defence and Daniel MacVicar up front. MacMillan marked ‘More top scorer Glen MacKintosh whilst MacVicar has been a fixture in the senior side during the second half of the season. Both lined-up in this one alongside keeper Brian Logan, Lewis Buchanan, Daniel MacCuish and Daniel MacMillan. Similarly, Newtonmore introduced Iain Richardson at full back and Iain Robinson up front early in the second half of that meeting with Oban Camanachd and they both featured strongly for the Eilan side. Duncan Gorman was also included whilst the match was played in familiar surroundings for Jono Price. He plays senior shinty for Strathglass but plays U17 shinty for Newtonmore as Strathglass do not have a team at that level. A healthy crowd gathered for this 1pm throw up. Iain Robertson netted ‘More’s opening goal from the penalty spot on 13 minutes. Referee Deek Cameron pointed to the spot when Duncan Gorman was on the end of a late swing from Craig Kirkpatrick which brought him down inside the D. Iain Robinson’s penalty was a clean, powerful strike and although Oban keeper Brian Logan got a hand to the ball, he was unable to keep it out of the net. Tommy Stewart sealed the Newtonmore win on 63 minutes. There was a scramble in and around the D. Brian Logan’s attempted clearance was blocked and then neatly tapped into the net by Thomas Stewart to make it 2-0. David Corrigan from sponsors Marine Harvest presented the London Shield to Newtonmore captain Iain Richardson. Match Referee – Deek Cameron |
