Newtonmore Take 2014 MacTavish Juvenile Cup | |
27 June 2014 Newtonmore U17′s won the MacTavish Juvenile Cup with a 3-1 derby win over Kingussie U17 at the Bught on Saturday 21 June 2014. Kingussie suffered a blow ahead of the match when Calum Grant was ruled out with a hand injury but he was included in the Kings squad. Jimmy Gow managed the Kingussie squad with Michael Ritchie in charge of the Newtonmore youngsters. Kingussie beat Lovat, Lochaber and Lochcarron to get to the final. Newtonmore had a first round bye and they then overcame Glenurquhart and Kilmallie to reach the final. Newtonmore went in front on 21 minutes thanks to an Iain Robinson goal. Iain Robinson got his and Newtonmore’s second on the half hour to make it 2-0. Both sides had first half chances but keepers Robert Shiells for Kingussie and Newtonmore’s Fraser MacDonald were in top form. Kingussie pulled a goal back just before the break with Roddy Young on target. The second half did not have the same intensity but Newtonmore started to take control of the midfield area. The Eilan youngsters went further ahead when referee Robert Morrison awarded them a penalty on 80 minutes and Craig MacLeod stepped up to convert from the spot as he slammed the ball high into the net. Camanachd Association Youth Director Calum Duff presented the MacTavish Juvenile Cup to Newtonmore captain Craig Ritchie and medals to all players. Newtonmore full back Iain Richardson was awarded the coveted Sandy Mackay Man of the Match medal.
