Newtonmore Launch Camanachd Association Broadside | |
11 April 2013 Newtonmore Camanachd Club have launched a broadside against what they consider to be the Camanachd Association’s intransigent position on league reconstruction. Speaking after the club’s committee meeting on Thursday 11 April 2013, club secretary Ian Gibson said, ‘’The Camanachd board’s refusal to accept the Skye Camanachd club’s motion at the AGM seems more a result of power struggles and personality clashes within the board than a logical and reasoned response to the concerns expressed by numerous clubs. It is an immature reaction to a perceived attack on their freedom to take decisions.’’ ‘’It is disingenuous of the board to argue that a discussion at an informal consultation event gave them a mandate to push ahead with a decision on such a fundamental issue. The option chosen was not even one that was put out for consultation. Moreover people attending from clubs at that meeting had no mandate to agree to a proposed structure or endorse a particular approach.’’ ‘’Newtonmore Camanachd Club itself feels betrayed by assurances given to it on its non-confrontational approach (originally made on 13 February 2013) that a review of the league reconstruction decision could be facilitated by allowing a debate and a vote at the AGM. Almost two months later they have metaphorically shifted the goalposts again.’’ Club secretary Ian Gibson added, ‘’As far as Newtonmore Camanachd Club is concerned the gloves are off. We are 100% behind Skye Camanachd Club’s motion to overturn this misconceived league reconstruction and find ourselves shoulder to shoulder with our old rivals Kingussie and Kyles Athletic. The Association has totally misjudged the mood of the clubs.’’ He added that ‘’Bewilderment at the original decision has now been replaced by total outrage at the apparently dysfunctional behaviour of the board. The AGM is going to be a stormy affair as the board have totally misjudged the situation. The clubs are now going to have to go through the inconvenience and expense of calling an Emergency General Meeting to overcome the board’s cack handed intransigence.’’ |
