Neil MacVicar Named 2016 Skye Camanachd First Team Captain | |
12 February 2016 Neil MacVicar has been confirmed as Skye Camanachd first team captain for the 2016 shinty season. MacVicar, who has been a stand-out in defence over the last couple of seasons during Skye’s climb to shinty’s top flight, started playing shinty at Portree Primary School. He then progressed through the Skye Camanachd youth ranks, captaining Skye Camanachd U17 to London Shield victory in 2009, before establishing himself as a first team player. Kenny Campbell has been confirmed as Skye Camanachd vice-captain. Skye Camanachd first team manager John MacLeod said, “We took our time in selecting both the captaincy and vice-captain due to the importance of the 2016 season to Skye Camanachd. There were other players considered but we felt Neil and Kenny were the best combination. Both players’ attitude and commitment to Skye Camanachd have been excellent since we took over and that this pairing was the right choice for taking the team forward into the Marine Harvest Premiership." Neil MacVicar’s first game as captain will be the Murdo MacKenzie Memorial Cup meeting with Strathglass at Cannich on Saturday 13 February 2016. |
