26 August 2019 Everyone at Skye Camanachd was sorry to hear of the very sudden but peacefully passing of Neil Drummond at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness on Sunday 18 August 2019. Neil was aged 84 years and lived latterly in Conon Bridge. He was originally from Newtonmore and moved to Portree as Police Inspector in the late 1970s with big shoes to fill as he took over from DA Morrison. Neil immediately became involved with Skye Camanachd and was a former Chairman of the club. As well as benefiting from his undoubted leadership skills, Neil was also particularly active organising Skye Camanachd youth matches and youth events including taking players to matches off the Island and his contribution will be well-remembered by many of the young players who later went on to be part of Skye Camanachd’s 1990 Camanachd Cup winning team. He remained involved with the club until the 1980s when he moved to Shetland on promotion to Chief Inspector. Neil had previously been a Police Constable stationed at Uig in the early part of his career and in these days, when poaching was rife, he made his mark. He was a gentleman in every respect. The sympathies of everyone at Skye Camanachd go out to Neil’s beloved wife Helen, daughter Joan, son-in-law Peter, grand-daughter Emma and indeed to the extended family. Neil Drummond’s funeral service takes place in the Inverness Crematorium on Tuesday 3 September 2019. The service starts at 1.30pm and all are welcome to attend. It is family flowers only and donations are invited for The British Heart Foundation, Inverness and Highland Hospice at the service or they can be forwarded to the Funeral Directors, John Fraser & Son, Lovat House, High Street, Dingwall, IV15 9TF. |
