Lochcarron 1 Skye Camanachd 3 | |
30 June 2018 Skye Camanachd are through to the Strathdearn Cup semi-finals after they beat Lochcarron 3-1 at Battery Park on Saturday 30 June 2018. The Skye squad is along usual lines although John Angus MacInnes, Ruaraidh MacLeod and Chris Rose were missing. The heat made it difficult for both sides but Skye had the best of the first half and they created a handful of chances with Angie MacDonald and Ross Gordon narrowly missing the target. Skye took the lead on 35 minutes following a nice, flowing move involving Connor Gilpin, Sam MacPhee and Ross Gordon who all combined to set up Martin Pringle and he finished well. It was a goal Skye deserved and needed with half time approaching. Skye started the second half well and they killed off the tie in the opening 5 minutes of the second period. Ross Gordon made it 2-0 just a minute after the restart with a good low drive to the keeper’s right. This was a pivotal moment in the tie and substitute Sam MacPhee added a third with a neat finish from outside the D on 50 minutes. Liam Arnott bagged a consolation goal for Lochcarron on the hour mark but Skye kept running right to the end in difficult conditions. Some of the Skye players hadn’t played for a few weeks and that showed at times during the first half but the overall work-rate was fantastic in the heat. Skye will now face the Fort William second team on the last-four of the competition.
